Talent Development Specialist

Position Summary:

HDC seeks a Talent Development Specialist to support our organization’s commitment to enhancing training and development opportunities for HDC staff. This position will play a critical role in fostering the growth and development of employees within the organization and help develop talent strategies and programming centered on career pathing, mentorship, and development for talent across the Corporation.

Housed within the Human Resources/Diversity, Equity and Inclusion/Equal Employment Opportunity (HR/DEI/EEO) department, the Talent Development Specialist reports to the Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer. This role will support in designing, planning and implementing training and development programs, policies and procedures in alignment with HDC’s organizational and DEI strategy, partnering with cross functional teams and department leads to evaluate and establish effective training and development programming.

Core focus areas of the Talent Development Specialist will be:

  • Development of a training curriculum for new hires
  • Development of training curriculum and ongoing education for existing staff
  • Coordination of training initiatives and programming centered on career pathing and mentorships
  • Exploration of additional internal development programs that deepen the connection of new, and current employees to the affordable housing industry at large

Salary Range:    $95,000 - $100,000/Annual

Office Location:  NYC/ Financial District

Job Responsibilities:

The Talent Development Specialist will:

  • Partner with HR, HDC leadership and industry experts to design and build training curriculum centered on learning and development within the affordable housing industry.
  • Review, develop and tailor training curriculums for new hires entering HDC and the affordable housing industry.
  • In partnership with agency leaders and stakeholders, design career pathway and development initiatives intended to support staff looking to move up, within, and/or across HDC and the affordable housing industry at large. This will include on-going collaboration with the organization’s Career Counselor, and the build out of an in-house mentorship program aimed at connecting staff across the organization to support a learning and collaborative culture.
  • Facilitate and conduct training sessions, discussions, and events with staff and leadership aimed at career mapping of emerging leaders and managers.
  • Develop and lead efforts with project management elements, including (but not limited to) goal setting, reporting, tracking, and evaluation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum 5-7 years’ experience working in Learning & Workforce Development and/or managing employee teams or programs centered on supporting career growth and advancement
  • Knowledge of and experience with curriculum and program development
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to build relationships with staff and executives
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent public speaking, business writing, and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to coordinate and keep multiple tasks/project plans on course for completion at the same time with great attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to interact and cultivate relationships and trust with people from all backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading or collaborating in workplace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) centered activities and programs
  • Fluency and knowledge to have conversations about DEI with people who are at different parts of the DEI journey
  • Interest or experience in housing or real estate policy
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, organizational leadership, or related field strongly preferred (comparable education or experience in affordable housing will also be considered)
