Director of Networking & Cybersecurity

Position Summary:

The Director of Networking & Cybersecurity works with multiple stakeholders to significantly improve operational processes and ensure security throughout the underlying IT infrastructure. This role requires a significant amount of advanced hands-on technical work across all aspects of the local network, cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity systems. In addition, the Director will manage and mentor a small team. This role reports to the Chief Information Officer.

Salary Range:      $140,000 to $155,000

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, recommend, and implement networking and cybersecurity systems, dashboards, and security policies.
  • Manage and secure all aspects of IT infrastructure and networking, including:
    • Identity management
    • Remote access
    • Application infrastructure (physical and virtual servers, storage, load balancers, etc) both on-premises and in the cloud
    • Networking equipment and related services (switches, DNS, Wi-Fi, internet, etc)
    • Firewall and related security appliances  
  • Provide Level 3 support for multiple cloud environments. Tasks include buildout of networking requirements in cloud and on-prem, along with upgrades as needed.
  • Provide Level 3 support and troubleshooting of network systems, including firewalls, switches and routers across geographically dispersed datacenters (both cloud and on-prem).
  • Oversee the monitoring of the uptime and security of email delivery, including antivirus scanning, malware scanning, phishing detection and prevention, and taking steps to reduce email impersonation and spam. Monitor and maintain the reputation of the organization’s domain.
  • Manage the on-premises datacenter and telecom closets, in coordination with the Facility Manager.
  • Manage the monitoring and maintenance of the uptime of all production IT applications across a variety of technology stacks including VMware, Microsoft Windows, Linux and Oracle.
  • Implement and manage a disaster recovery and backup strategy, and coordinate with other IT staff to monitor and regularly test the DR procedures.
  • Apply security patches to equipment on a routine basis and determine when hotfixes are required. 
  • Conduct cybersecurity investigations and coordinate with security vendors, including the security operations center. Coordinate regular network penetration and security testing.
  • Research, evaluate and implement new technologies to constantly improve the infrastructure and its cybersecurity posture.
  • Develop the budget for approved projects and perform technical research on future projects.
  • Manage relationships with infrastructure and security related vendors.
  • Build strong relationships with business groups and their leaders across the enterprise, and develop a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges and opportunities.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of IT staff consisting of a Senior Network Engineer and a Cybersecurity Analyst.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or a satisfactory combination of education, certifications and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of routing, switching, and firewalls, cloud computing and networking.
  • Working knowledge of secondary server systems and dependencies.
  • Excellent time management, decision-making, problem solving, presentation, documentation, planning, organization and writing skills.
  • Proven track record for implementing innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Must be proactive in addressing issues.
  • Highly organized; strong logical thinking abilities and attentive to detail.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Expert in IT staff management, including staff development, performance evaluations, resource allocation in a matrix environment and project scheduling.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and motivate professional staff.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies.
  • Undertakes continuous self-development of both functional and leadership skills.
